Choosing Moments

mom and son walking on beach together

The day was a regular day with two boys and one with cancer. My healthy one wanted some one on one mommy time. So I had a plan; give the dog a bath, get the one with cancer set up, then go for a jeep ride with healthy boy.

The dog was almost done with the bath when I heard from my son, Aron needs you, he's throwing up. My brain was flooded with options. Get the dog finished up, clean the tub, clean up puke on the floor, medicate...etc. If I had completed the list in that order, there went special time with healthy son.

So here's how it went. I rinsed the dog, called the grandpa and asked him to come over and sit with Aron, assessed the puke situation and then made a decision.

I chose to leave the puke on the floor.

I chose to leave the dog in a crate and leave the bathroom for another time.

I chose to have special time with my healthy son.

Grandpa came over, I informed him quickly that yes, I know there's puke and leave it, and please don't use the boy's bathroom because it's a war zone post dog bath.

Then I grabbed the jeep key, swooped up Ash, and we headed out for our 30 minute adventure.

Best.Time.Ever.

During this season especially, what puke do you need to leave on the floor to have that time with your children?

With those you love?

Puke is easily cleanable and will happen over and over. But the gift of time isn't there to pick up later.

Time is the gift offered only once.

Then, time is simply gone.

My challenge, dear ones, is to leave the puke on the floor for a little while, enjoy the moments, be present.

Remember, it's just a little puke.
